Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about using TypingABC.

Is TypingABC free?

Yes. TypingABC is completely free. Every lesson, speed test, drill and game is available with no cost and no sign-up.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no login or registration. Your progress — best WPM, accuracy, streak and badges — is saved privately in your own browser using local storage.

How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?

Words per minute is calculated by dividing the number of correctly typed characters by five (the standard word length), then dividing by the time taken in minutes.

What is a good typing speed?

Around 40 WPM is average for adults. 60–70 WPM is a strong touch-typing speed, and 80+ WPM is considered advanced. Beginners often start below 30 WPM.

How long does it take to learn touch typing?

With ten minutes of daily practice, most people notice clear improvement within two to three weeks and reach a comfortable 50–60 WPM within a couple of months.

Does TypingABC work on mobile?

The site is fully responsive and works on any device, but typing practice is best on a physical keyboard (desktop or laptop).

Is my data private?

Yes. We don't require accounts and your typing progress never leaves your device. See our Privacy Policy for details on cookies and advertising.

Can I practise typing code?

Yes. Focus Mode includes real code snippets for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL and JSON, with smart auto-indentation.
